Tiny Lights (Which is named after the backing song), depicts the story of being lost in ones memories, and how that can entrap anyone. I wanted to give it a darker tone, while still keeping in a fantasy theme, so i used colour grading and set to achieve this effect. I feel like the way in which i've been photographing in the entire project can be a reflection of this, developing our communications, telling stories, and getting lost in it all. I wanted the books to reflect this, the way it was set up to look like a Bonfire, like burning memories that your lost in.
The books that were used on this shoot were 1890's originals that were serving no purpose other than just gathering dust. They gave the entire shoot a really dark feel to it as the books themselves were slightly odd and disturbing.
This is not my first time producing a short like this, but i found that there were challenges in this that i'd rarely had to overcome before. For example fading light and lack of illumination meant that colour grading the later shots became more and more difficult as i pushed the colours lighter and lighter. I found it was of course, easier to make the lighter shots look darker, rather than the darker shots look lighter.
However, overall i think this was a highly successful shoot, i'm going to try and maintain the same visual style for the my next one, while increasing the content and refining my cinematography.
