Artist Research - Gregory Crewdson - Cinematographic Photography

These photographs are designed to look like a film set. Gregory Crewdsom shoots in a manner that is reflective of cinematography, rather than straight up photography. While some would argue that there is no difference, i feel like the way that you frame your shot has to change when defining a frame which will have movement within it. The manner in which the shots are taken are important. Crewdson takes his photographs like a film. Lighting is vital to the scene. The first photograph is striking in the that the large Spotlight that are is focused reminds me of JJ.Abrams Super 8.
"Place is so important to the work. Setting. Place. That sense that keeps changing because of light and everything. So i'll come to spot and it iwll look great and then next day i'll come back and it doesn't look great anymore"-Crewdson

"The first response is always location. Location, Location, Location"

I love this style of photography. Using my skills in Cinematography to create a photographic scene. There's a sense of craft within creating a scene for film that i feel i've avoided within my photographic skills. I love the idea of combining this style of photography, with my night shots, creating scenes rather than just images.
